Hello from San Francisco! I am currently at an academic conference in San Francisco, and actually this is only the second time I have been in the city. The first time I came here I was six years old, so you can imagine that I don’t remember anything about that trip! Therefore, I have to constantly ask people for directions in the city. Today I would like to give you some expressions to use to check to see if you are going in the right direction. Here they are!

サンフランシスコからこんにちは！

現在学会のためにサンフランシスコに来ています。

これでサンフランシスコは二回目ですが、

初回は６歳の時だったので、何も覚えていないです。

ですから、よく道を聞いています。

今日は自分の歩いている道を確かめるための表現を

紹介したいと思います。では、読んでみましょう！

Sentence 1: Is this the right way to go to Golden Gate Park?

センテンス１：　これはゴールデンゲートパークへ行く道ですか？

Sentence 2: Am I going in the right direction to go to Fisherman’s Wharf?

センテンス２：　フィシュマンズ・ワーフに行くためにこの方向は合っていますか？

Sentence 3: Is the Moscone Center this way or that way? (pointing your finger)

センテンス３：モスコーンセンターはこちらそれともそちら？（指を指しながら）

For Sentences 1 and 2 you can point your finger in one direction while for Sentence 3 you must indicate two different directions as choices. I find that is a good idea to check your direction a few times to avoid getting lost. However, judge for yourself whether you think your informant is a local or not.

センテンス１とセンテンス２を言う時に

一つの方向に指をささないといけないです。

センテンス３を言う時には二つの違う方向をさせばいいです。

迷わないために方向を数回確かめたほうがいいと思います。

しかし、聞き手が現地の人かどうか自分で判断してくださいね！
