Hello! Today on CNN I saw an interesting story about President Bush and his knowledge about the Internet. I would like to explain the mistakes that he made, and then give you the correct expressions. Here they are!

今日CNNで面白いニュースを見ました。

ブッシュ大統領はインタネットについて幾つかの間違いをスピーチで言ったことあります。

その間違いを聞いてから、

正しい文章を聞いてみましょう。

President Bush: School children should learn how to use the Internets in school.　

Sentence 1: School children should learn how to use the Internet in school.

センテンス１：　生徒は学校でインターネットについて学習すべきです。

President Bush: I have looked at the maps on the Google many times.

Sentence 2: I have looked at the maps on Google many times.

センテンス２：　グーグルの地図は何回も見たことあります。

I chose these two mistakes by President Bush to illustrate how it is easy for even native speakers to make mistakes when using plural versus singular nouns and the definite article. The “Internet” should always be singular. And, the name of the Internet search engine is “Google” without the definite article “the.” The presence or absence of the definite article is just a question of the official name of some company or service. I hope this is helpful and shows you that it is not only nonnative speakers who make mistakes when speaking English.

ブッシュ大統領からの例文を選んだのはネイティブでも

間違いをするというのを明らかにするためでした。

特に複数形と「the」を使う時は間違えやすいです。

インターネットはいつも単数形で、グーグルの名前は「the」が付かないです。

会社やサービスの名前は決まった名前で呼ぶしかないです。

ネイティブの人も間違いをするというのを知って、

少し励ましになるのではないでしょうか？
